Under player control, the Vidar can destroy any opponent. Particularly corvettes and even lightly shielded frigates when not under player control. In X3AP Vidar can be bought from Terran Shipyards and seen in racial attack fleets.īlowing stuff up. The first time is when it is used for the player's boarding practice, though it is given to you whether you attempt to board it or not. In X3TC the Vidar is extremely rare, only witnessed twice in the game, both times during the main Terran plotline. If you do have a mine on the asteroid, get still closer after the reticle changes to in-range with just the Tractor Beam selected, and still cannot get the beam to connect then please post a new thread about your issue. The only advantage of EMPCs over MAMLs is the increased cargo bay: 10 EMPCs take up 160 less space, plus have no need for ammo, allowing the Vidar to extend its combat endurance. Ronin677: This is an old thread and not the same problem at all - the OP was trying to use an underpowered TS. Together, they mean that most Frigates are able to deal substantial damage to a Vidar with EMPCs, and if escorted by more than one Corvette, even the weakest Frigates are likely to threaten the Vidar. However, the noticeably shorter range on the EMPC relative the MAML means that the Vidar is exposed to more enemy fire, which can be dangerous when entering and leaving combat the increased energy cost means that the Vidar can only sustain fire for about 34 seconds and lower damage means that the Vidar is not nearly so dangerous. The only combat roles it doesn't excel at are support ones and missile lobbing.Įven with 14 EMPCs, a player-controlled Vidar is powerful enough to take on several other Corvettes at once by itself, and some weaker Frigates. Tough shields leave a good margin for error, and its weaponry absolutely maims opposing ships of the same class and chews up anything larger. Even large Xenon fleets can be bested with careful flying and a handy obstacle to hide behind. Utterly lethal in any combat role, under AI control the Vidar makes for a powerful patrol, but as a player ship it shreds anything up to and including destroyers with its massively powerful weaponry (potentially in the form of 10 Matter/Anti-Matter Launchers plus one of two dual turrets normally equipped with EMPCs) and great agility. A compact profile means it takes very few hits, and its reasonable turret coverage means it has good missile defences. The Vidar looks Corvette-like, unlike the heavier Vali. It has been retired in favour of its generally more potent successor and will rarely be seen in active service. The Vidar is an older ATF corvette, precursor of the Vali. However, its power comes at a cost: its range is heavily compromised if a full rack of M/AMLs is used due to slightly cramped cargo bay leaving little room for all of ammo, jump energy and missiles. Its shielding is on par with that of Heavy M6s, at 1GJ. Its damage output is nearly unrivalled and its great agility allows it to bring its weaponry to bear with frightening speed and accuracy. The ATF Vidar is a strong candidate for the role of 'Best combat M6' due to its massive forward firepower.
